This lecture is intended to introduce students to the PowerPoint presentation of a topic in history in English. Students will learn how to present topics in history and how to ask questions to presenters in English. The objective of this lecture is clearly limited. Students are not expected to become fluent speakers of English or make a perfect presentation. The purpose of this class is to enable students to make a presentation on historical themes with limited ability of English and give an opportunity to ask questions to presenters.
英語による歴史的なトピックのプレゼンの仕方の習得が、この授業の課題です。平成１８年度に続き、平成１９年度も同じ授業を水曜日の３時間目に行っています。人気沸騰中で学生数が倍に増えましたが、その分参加者個々人のパフォーマンスの密度が下がるという問題を抱えています。ここでは授業が始まった経緯とその内容を紹介します。
竹中亨先生の発案で西洋史にDebate演習を導入することになりましたが、あまり気乗りがしなかったので、授業運営の難易度を少し上げて、不確定要素を高めようと思い、英語によるプレゼンテーション授業、パフォーマンスの授業をすることにしました。パフォーマンスという言葉は、オーストラリアのメルボルン学派の重鎮、グレグ・デニングの、歴史はパフォーマンス、という言葉を勝手にパクって、いいかげんに使っています。読みreadingにはいろいろあるということです。あるいは文化のハイブリディティ、あるいは翻訳可能性でしょう
か。（インテリはここでにやっと笑います。ともかくにやっとしておいてください。賢く見えることが賢いということです。別の言い方をするといい歴史学の論文らしく見えることが、いい論文だと言うことです）。
２００７年の後期は、参加者を１２人に制限し、できるだけ発言の機会を多く参加者に与えようと考えました。参加を見合わせてくれた学生には感謝します。
担当は以下のようにする。
（１）会場準備担当
プロジェクターやパソコンの設定を行う。
（２）記録担当
演習の目的、パフォーマンスの様子などを記録・録音する。とくにディスカッションの記録を取る。
（３）プレゼンター
レジメ、パワーポイントのスライドを用意し、プレゼンを行う。

There may be minor changes of the schedule because of unavoidable incidents and the organization of class will be modified according to the number of students enrolled in this class.
授業の開かれた日とクラスのナンバーは必ずしも一致しませんが、報告者一人に１クラスがだいたい割り当てられています。今回から、ホームページの作成も報告者の義務にしました。欠落した部分は、報告者の怠慢です。
